Spreckels Cup & Concours dí Elegance

While some of our club members delivered toys and sundries
to the Polinsky Children's Center for the annual ìChristmas in July - Teddy
Bear Runî, Debbie and I enjoyed a lovely afternoon of surf & turf in
beautiful Del Mar. On Sunday, July 15, the Del Mar Polo Club hosted the
Spreckels Polo Cup and Concours D' Elegance to benefit the La Jolla Institute
for Molecular Medicine. |
Like a scene out of ìPretty Womanî, we strolled through the crowd enjoying
some very competitive polo matches (yes, I actually learned how the game
is played) and viewed some spectacular vintage racecars and antique planes.
New club member, Jacques Le Clainche was there displaying his racing Bugeye
[right]. In all, there were about 30 cars and 10 airplanes with various
vendors displaying their wares. |

During halftime of the feature event, spectators got to
walk onto the field for the traditional ìstomping of the divotsî. I warned
Debbie to avoid any divots that might be steaming and we both managed to
successfully navigate the course. Several cases of champagne were donated
by Faulkner Winery and given to those walking out on the field to work
on the divots. This kind of special pampering made me feel just like Thurston
Howell, III. They had a small petting zoo and moon bounce for the kids,
and a Sunday Brunch (extra) for the adults. A wonderful day, beautiful
locationÖ Hopefully, we can work out the details for having next year's
British Car Day at the Polo Club. Until then, tah-tah Lovey! |
