Temecula Winery Tour With The Triumph Club
By Warren Voth

The December 1st Winery Tour sponsored by the Triumph Club left the Mira Mesa "Park and Ride" promptly at 9:30AM. Our club's select group of connoisseurs included Dave Grundies & Diane Schneider, myself, Debra Darby and Randy Zoller, who also organized the tour for the TR Club. I was one of the first to arrive, but somehow the last one out. I almost lost the group on I-15 due to a traffic light, or maybe they are ashamed to be seen with me. At any rate we got together at the Deer Park exit, headed east to Rancho California Road and the Callaway Winery. Click for larger image

Arriving at Callaway, we purchased the wine glass with 4 or 5 sample vintages. Randy, being the sophisticate he is, reminded us that we were to sip an ounce or two of wine and work it around gently in our cheeks to release more aromas into our olfactory system. Olfactory means "nose" to those of us who usually only drink wine in our Kool-Aide. Next we swallow the wine slowly and let it linger on our taste buds. Connoisseurs call this savoring the "finish". This too, is a revelation to those who usually chug-a-lug their Coors. Tasting was repeated at the Churon and Stuart Cellars.

We lunched at the Baily around circular tables on the patio. I had a truly delicious Mediterranean chicken salad with warm crusty artisan bread. I can highly recommend the Baily winery for a nice afternoon lunch. After lunch the group did the scenic Glenoaks Road to De Portola Road to Anza Road loop and home.
